The Ten Commandments

I.                  Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

II.              Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; and shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.

III.        Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD Will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

IV.           Remember the sabbath day,* to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: but the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

V.               Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.

VI.           Thou shalt not kill.

VII.     Thou shalt not commit adultery.

VIII. Thou shalt not steal.

IX.            Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.

X.                Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor anything that is thy neighbour's.

Exodus 20:3-17

* Note: The old testament Sabbath was  (and will be again) for the Jews.
The LORD Jesus Christ, when asked, repeated all the commandments, except this one, which He left out.
**  (Matt. 19:17-19, 22:37-40, John 13:34, etc.)
The new testament Christian Church of believers in Jesus Christ meet and always have meet on Sunday, the 1st day of the week for the resurrection of Jesus Christ (Mark 16:9, John 20:19) and the new covenant.  (John 20:19, Acts 20:7, 1Cor. 16:2, etc..)
However, the LORD'S day (Sunday, the 1st day of a new week) should still be set aside, respected and kept holy.

REGARDING THE SABBATH

As Bible believing Christians, we believe every day is the Lord’s and we are to worship and serve him with the same devotion each and every day.

The day set aside for Christian believers to gather together to worship is Sunday, the first day of the week, and Scripture upholds this truth.

We do not worship on the sabbath (sundown Friday to sundown Saturday) because the sabbath was given specifically to the Jews.

"Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, saying, Verily my sabbaths ye shall keep: for it is a sign between me and you throughout your generations; that ye may know that I am the LORD that doth sanctify you." Exodus 31:13

It was instituted as a specific sign for Israel as long as Israel was in the land God had given to them and in right relationship to God.

The Lord Jesus Christ kept the sabbath until his crucifixion because he was a Jew, the Law was still in force (until his death) and he came to the Jews first to fulfill the Law (Matthew 5:17-18.)

When the Lord Jesus Christ cried from the cross "It is Finished" (John 19:30) the Law was completely fulfilled. Not once after his crucifixion did the Lord Jesus Christ keep the sabbath, but instead gave us the example of The Lord’s Day.

Initially, as Paul went to the Jews, he went where and when he was sure to find them – at the Synagogue, on the sabbath. But in Acts 18:4-6 things changed.

"And he reasoned in the synagogue every sabbath, and persuaded the Jews and the Greeks. And when Silas and Timotheus were come from Macedonia, Paul was pressed in the spirit, and testified to the Jews that Jesus was Christ. And when they opposed themselves, and blasphemed, he shook his raiment, and said unto them, Your blood be upon your own heads; I am clean: from henceforth I will go unto the Gentiles." Acts 18:4-6

From then on when Paul met with the church it was on the first day of the week. The only mention of the sabbath again is Colossians 2:16 – "Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:" – showing that the sabbath has no place in the Dispensation of Grace.

To observe the sabbath is to place yourself again under the curse of the law. Paul dealt with this in the epistle to the Galatians.

"For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them." Galatians 3:10

James 2:10 says "For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point,

he is guilty of all."

No one can perfectly keep the whole Law, how much better to come under God’s grace.

Only God’s grace can save us. Ephesians 2:8-9

"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast."

According to Romans 3:20 & 7:13 the Law was given to show man his sinfulness.

[note: when asked of the Law, Jesus repeats all the Laws except this one – he left the sabbath law out!]

To confess that salvation by law is impossible for man humbles the man and shows the holiness of the law. But to claim salvation by keeping the law makes man proud and takes away the righteousness of the law.

God provided only one way of Salvation – Acts 4:12

"Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved."

JESUS SAVES!

9: He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now.
10: He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him.
11: But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes.

5: For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death.
6: But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.

7: For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.
8: Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward.
9: Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.

11: For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.

1 Timothy 6:14.
6: But godliness with contentment is great gain.
7: For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.
8: And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.
9: But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.
10: For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
11: But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.
12: Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.
    13: I give thee charge in the sight of God, who quickeneth all things, and before Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate witnessed a good confession;
14: That thou keep this commandment without spot, unrebukeable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ:

Hebrews 7.
11: If therefore perfection were by the Levitical priesthood, (for under it the people received the law,) what further need was there that another priest should rise after the order of Melchisedec, and not be called after the order of Aaron?
12: For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law.
13: For he of whom these things are spoken pertaineth to another tribe, of which no man gave attendance at the altar.
14: For it is evident that our Lord sprang out of Juda; of which tribe Moses spake nothing concerning priesthood.
15: And it is yet far more evident: for that after the similitude of Melchisedec there ariseth another priest,
16: Who is made, not after the law of a carnal commandment, but after the power of an endless life.
17: For he testifieth, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.
18: For there is verily a disannulling of the commandment going before for the weakness and unprofitableness thereof.
19: For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did; by the which we draw nigh unto God.
20: And inasmuch as not without an oath he was made priest:
21: (For those priests were made without an oath; but this with an oath by him that said unto him, The Lord sware and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec:)
22: By so much was Jesus made a surety of a better testament.
23: And they truly were many priests, because they were not suffered to continue by reason of death:
24: But this man, because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood.
25: Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.
26: For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens;
27: Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people's: for this he did once, when he offered up himself.
28: For the law maketh men high priests which have infirmity; but the word of the oath, which was since the law, maketh the Son, who is consecrated for evermore.
